Submission Information


The majority of submissions published by the Michigan Journal of Race & Law are unsolicited. Thus, we strongly encourage the submission of Articles, Essays, Comments, Book Reviews, and Notes from all disciplines. Specifically, we seek to publish works that explore the intersection of race and the law in a thought-provoking and innovative manner. (See our previous issues or our current issue for examples.)

Submissions should be word processed and double-spaced (Microsoft Word preferred); citations should be in footnote form. Citations should generally conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (17th ed. 2000). English usage should generally conform to The Chicago Manual of Style (15th ed.). Each manuscript should be accompanied by a cover letter giving a brief overview of the manuscript and providing author contact information including name, e-mail address, phone number, and mailing address. We regret that we can return only those manuscripts for which we receive postage and handling fees.

Typically, we will respond to Submissions within two to three weeks. Except during the summer months, when responses may take one to two months. For questions regarding the article selection process, or to request an expedited review, please email mjrl.submission@umich.edu, or call (734) 763-4421.
