Judge Dion Basson was appointed to the Bench of the newly created Labour Court of South Africa in November of 1996. Margaret A. Burnham is currently faculty member in Political Science at Massachusetts Institute of Tecnology and maintains a private law practice, Burnham & Hines in Boston. She served as the first black woman judge in Massachusetts in 1977 and resigned from that position to become the Director of the National Conference of Black Lawyers. In 1993, President Nelson Mandela appointed Burnham to serve with jurists from Zimbabwe and South Africa on an international human rights panel investigating human rights abuses alleged to have been committed by the African National Congress.
