February 27 - 11:45am, Hutchins 100 - Copyright and Innovation: The Untold Story
Has copyright enforcement really benefited the creative industries? Has taking down "rogue websites" helped artists and musicians? Can the music and movie industry adapt to the 21st century? If so, how? Come hear Professor Michael Carrier discuss his groundbreaking study of CEOs, company founders, technology companies, the recording industry, and venture capital firms.
February 12 - 11:45am, Hutchins 138 - IPSA and Kirkland & Ellis Presents: IP Litigation after the America Invents Act
IPSA is hosting David Callahan, a partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis, for a discussion on how the America Invents Act (AIA) will affect patent litigation.

September 13 - America's First Patents: A Discussion with Professor Michael Risch
Professor Michael Risch of Villanova School of Law will discuss American's first patents and the history of patent law as a whole. Michigan Law's Professor Rebecca Eisenberg will offer her own comments on Professor's Risch's presentation.
September 19 - General Body Meeting/Elections
Join IPSA for the first general body meeting of the year. New 1L reps will be elected.

Learn about pro bono opportunies offered through IPSA
September 27 - Social Hour at Dominick's
Unwind with IPSA at Dominick's before the weather turns too cold. Appetizers and drinks will be served.

October 2 - A Day In The Life of Intellectual Property Law
A lunchtime panel featuring a number of practicing attorneys practicing a range of IP law, including copyright, trademarks, patent prosecution, and patent litigation. Learn about their day-to-day experience. Lunch will be provided.

November 9 - Public Patent Foundation: Organic Seed v. Monsanto
Dan Rvicher, Executive Director of PUBPAT and counsel to plaintiffs in Organic Seed v. Monsanto, will discuss the lawsuit.

+ Saturday, March 24, Hutchins Hall - Development or Impediment Trends of Intellectual Property Law in Asia
Symposium consisting of three panels composed of legal scholars and practitioners. Each panel will survey the current IP trends in several key industries across Asia. The panels are tentatively structure as follows: Fashion and the Arts, Public Health, and Electronics and Information Technology. Speakers TBA.

Speaker Andrew Basile graduated from Princeton in 1986 and University of Michigan Law School in 1989 and worked at Jenner & Block in Chicago for five years. He went on to become an equity partner at Cooley Godward, running that firms 18-attorney Internet practice in San Francisco during the dot-com boom. He is now Chairman of Young Basile, a 25 attorney IP boutique with offices in Michigan and California. Mr. Basile will share his experiences about how to succeed in the IP law field.

Rick Brandon and Bryce Pilz, Michigan Law alumni and Assistant General Counsel in the Office of Technology Transfer, will discuss how IP issues arising from the research conducted at the University are handled and how their career paths led them back to Michigan. All are welcome and lunch will be served!
