The Federalist Society in Brief

The University of Michigan Federalist Society is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to bringing conservative and libertarian ideas into legal education. We sponsor debates, speeches and symposia to advance our principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.

National Student Symposium

March 7-8, 2008
University of Michigan Law School

The University of Michigan Law School is proud to host the 2008 Federalist Society National Student Symposium, “The People and the Courts,” on March 7th and 8th, 2008. Please join us and Federalists from around the country as we gather in beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan to engage each other in a conversation about the role “we the people” play in interpreting our own constitutional order. The 2008 Symposium will confront questions about the degree to which the law should reflect the will of the people, whether courts should respond to popular sentiment, and when and how the public should react when courts simply “get it wrong.” We look forward to a great symposium and are assembling a great group of speakers. Check back frequently for upcoming announcements and information.
