Thought You'd Like To Know . . .

We are a special community, with special needs. This page should provide you with information you may not even know you need to know. This is the kind of info that elicits " good looking out!" from our BLSA members. Contact the Media Chair, Solandra Craig, if you have valuable info from which we can all benefit.

Hair

Of utmost importance. For Relaxers, you can get your hair done at the Briarwood Mall at JC Penny's. You can get to the mall using the AATA bus system, which is free with valid UMich student ID.
For Locs, try Addicted Hair Salon. BLSA members have had their locs retwisted at this location and recommend that you do too.

For other natural hair styles, visit Ramos' in Ypsilanti- Stephanie Johnson presses and styles natural hair in addition to providing traditional services and styles to permed hair. Call her at 734-223-4509.

Entertainment

Free dvd's!! Check out the UMich Library conveniently located across the street from the law school. You can also get dvd's from the Ann Arbor Public Library, which is located at 343 South Fifth Ave in Ann Arbor, about 4 blocks from the Law Quad.
See recent movies for $1 before 6pm and $1.50 after 6pm and only $0.50 on Tuesdays at the Briarwood Mall located on I-94 and State Boulevard in Ann Arbor.

Transportation

You can travel around Ann Arbor and even into Detroit on the AATA bus system, which is free with valid UMich student ID. Many bus stops are located around the Law Quad. Buses are usually reliable, but may not be the fastest way to get around. The buses can satisfy all your Walmart, Meijer, CVS and Kroger needs.

Food

You can feast on pretty good Indian food in good ole Ann Arbor. Check out Shalimar Cafe, 211 E. Washington St. Raja Rani also comes highly recommended by BLSA members.Raja Rani is located on 400 S. Division St.
For burritos, check out Big Ten Burrito, located on 810 S. State Street.
Also, be sure to check out Atlanta Bread Company at the corner of State and Packard. This Black-owned business is a regular supporter of BLSA!
