| APALSA members, feel free
to borrow books from the library in the APALSA office, but remember to
sign out the book. Those members who borrowed a book from last semester,
please return the books for use by other members this semester! We
have a lot of books available for various courses. Most of them
were donated by your fellow APALSA members, so please take good care of
them! |

Cultural Committee
- Help take part in planning the logistics
of our annual cultural show. Help recruit acts, raise funds and
advertise among other duties. Get involved in one of APALSA's biggest
events of the year! (Co-Chairs: Atasi Satpathy -
atasis@umich.edu and Rukku Singla - rukku@umich.edu)
External Relations Committee
- Admissions: Help Michigan
recruit prospective students to this awesome law school through
phone-a-thons, mail-a-thons, and planning social events for the preview
weekends. Most of the activity occurs in the second semester, but
there will be a few events during the first semester. Help show
these students why Michigan is a great school!
- Alumni: Get in touch with
Michigan APA alumni! Plan alumni events, the Senior Send-off, and
create a network/mentor/mentee program between Michigan alumni and
current Michigan law students.
- Faculty Hiring: Improve the diversity of both the faculty and
curriculum, with an aim to increasing the study of racial issues. This
interest in diversity includes but is not limited to APA professors and
subjects. In the Fall of 2000, the committee selected and advanced to
the Faculty Hiring Committee the names of roughly 30 Asian American law
professors whom it believed would do well as potential faculty hires at
Michigan Law School. The committee also drafted a statement, passed by
the general body, regarding faculty hiring. The committee was also charged with articulating APALSA's stance on the
issue of affirmative action, a stance that is expressed through APALSA's
affirmative action statement. (Chair: Steven Schwartz -
stevenrs@umich.edu)
Fundraising Committee
- The purpose of the newly minted
fundraising committee is to develop and
implement innovative ideas to raise money for APALSA activities. This
is a great committee for students who are creative and enjoy dealing
with people. Since it's a new committee, we're really looking into any
and all fundraising possibilities. So, if you have any great ideas to
share, we'd definitely like to hear them and help you carry it out.
Also, if you're looking for a way to get involved in APALSA with minimum
time commitment, this is the committee for you! (Chair: Lily Kim -
lilyhkim@umich.edu)
Political Action Committee
- Speaker Series: This committee
recruits speakers and minority leaders to hold bag lunches,
mini-symposiums and speaker series throughout the semester. Have
someone in mind? Let us know! This is a great opportunity to find
leaders who will talk/teach about APA-related subjects that the law
school community might be interested in.
- Political Action Committee: This
committee updates APALSA on current political and social issues relevant
to Asians and other minorities. (Chair: Linda Jong -
ljong@umich.edu)
Social Committee
- Plan social/community building events
throughout the semester year. Coordinate a trip to Windsor to eat dim
sum, bowling, or karaoke nights. This committee is for creative,
outgoing people who want to create a fun, APALSA social scene! (Chair:
Travis Rimando - trimando@umich.edu)
